Content Management System (CMS)

University Communications and Marketing currently manages two content management systems, Percussion and Terminalfour (T4). Percussion is being decommissioned as a product. As a result, T4 was implemented to replace Percussion. The migration is underway. T4 is a dedicated higher ed platform with many features for users to better manage the content for sections within cesametal.net.

  • Content Management System Standards
    • Many of the technical issues associated with proper website design are implemented as part of the content management system, and thus will not be at the discretion of the content manager. These include:
      • Sitemap implementation
      • URL structure
      • Coding style
      • Browser compatibility
      • Many code aspects of SEO
      • Visual identity and style
      • Most aspects of layout format and elements
  • Requirements
    • All official University websites should use an cesametal.net website address.
    • All cesametal.net websites must use the official header and footer.
    • Websites on the cesametal.net domain must follow brand guidelines.

External Websites for Official University Use

  • External websites or blogs (sites hosted outside of the cesametal.net domain) to be used for official University business, including those created outside of the university content management system, will not be permitted. Please direct all inquiries to University Communications and Marketing.
    • This includes, but not limited to:
      • Areas related to a school or college
      • University departments
      • Recruitment efforts
      • Marketing efforts
  • External websites will only be approved by University Communications and Marketing for Faculty pages to promote research, publications and other university related efforts
    • External Faculty pages must not:
      • Incorporate university logos
      • Recruit students - All recruitment efforts must link to cesametal.net
      • Must be built using Google Sites - Contact uts@oakland.edu. University funds will not be approved to purchase a content management system outside of the university approved content management system, Terminal4.

Tracking Code Governance

  • Digital Marketing
    • Accumulation of digital marketing vendor tags on web pages can impact site performance in a number of ways, including poor tag design, slow response time associated with the collection servers, tag placement, and the number of tags accumulated on pages. Only University Communication and Marketing can place or delete third party tracking codes.
